As you read through this week's Weekly Update in Sway, you will see that we have our momentum with teaching and learning. While we are only in our 3rd week of school, our students are aware of course expectations. As I walk through the halls before lunch and prior to dinner, I see students utilizing their time by completing homework. Teachers are reporting that students are diligently completing assignments during Evening Study.

Baishan AWS has partnered with Amerasia to create joined volleyball teams. Both the boys and the girls teams had their first match Thursday night as they competed against QISS. Congratulations to Blue Tie Jessica for helping lead the girls team to victory in three highly competitive sets. 

白珊·安妮高中与美亚国际学校合作共同组建了排球队。周四晚上,男生队和女生队与第一国际的学生进行了第一场排球赛。祝贺蓝带学生Jessica带领女队在三轮竞争激烈的比赛中获胜。

We've had another successful week of engagement in language learning as well as the study of reading, writing, and thinking in English langauge arts classes. All students continued to progress in their understanding of and ability to communicate their ideas in English, with the Yellow Ties becoming increasingly comfortable in an English-language environment. The Blue Ties considered the question of how people are portrayed by others this week, specifically by examining the friendship between Gertrude Stein and Pablo Picasso, and analyzing their portrayals of each other in portrait and poetry. Green Ties continue to examine issues around personal identity while beginning their novel study of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, and our Red Tie began to read The Wasted Vigil while deepending his understanding of the underlying issues of historical conflicts in Afghanistan.  

在本周的英语语言文学课上,学生们继续进行了阅读、写作和思考。所有学生在英语理解和交流能力方面都在不断进步,黄带9年级的学生越来越适应全英文的教学环境。蓝带十年级的学生本周学习了作家是如何在作品中进行人物刻画的主题,特别是通过学习Gertrude SteinPablo Picasso之间的友谊,分析了他们在肖像和诗歌中对彼此的刻画。绿带11年级的学生本周继续研究个人身份的相关问题,同时开始The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time的小说研究,红带12年级的学生开始阅读The Wasted Vigil ,加深了对阿富汗历史冲突潜在问题的理解。



Chinese Literature & Culture with Ms. Emilia  中国文学

          中国文化课的同学们分享了关于长江文化区黄河文化区的小组研究成果,介绍了仰韶文化龙山文化河姆渡文化等不同文化的典型特点,文化的发展和传承。我们还学习了中国文化起源中华文明起源的知识,二者的关系及区别。

The students of Chinese culture class shared the group research results of "Yangtze River cultural area" and "Yellow River cultural area", and introduced the typical characteristics, cultural development and inheritance of different cultures such as "Yangshao culture", "Longshan culture" and "Hemudu culture". We also learned the knowledge of "the origin of Chinese culture" and "the origin of Chinese civilization", and the relationship and difference between them.

     中国文学课,我们对《茶馆》第三幕中的人物和不同的故事情节进行了细致的分析和梳理,找到人物和故事之前的联系。在熟悉了人物图谱和三幕剧中的故事发展脉络基础上,以王利发、唐铁嘴等人物为例,分析人物的典型性格和命运。

In Chinese literature class, we deeply analyzed and combed the characters and different storylines in the third act of teahouse to find the relationship between the characters and the story. On the basis of being familiar with the character atlas and the story development context of the three act play, taking Wang Lifa, Tang Tiezui and other characters as examples, this paper analyzes the typical character and destiny of the characters.

In Anthropology, the students used the field notes they collected last week to write an observation report, the first part of their Internal Assessment.  They looked great for a first attempt.  Throughout the rest of the week we have been exploring the concepts of anthropology.

在人类学课程中,学生们根据上周去万象城收集的实地数据写了一份观察报告,这是学生IB内部评估的第一部分。学生们的第一次尝试表现不错。 此外,我们在课堂上继续探索人类学的概念。


In American History class, we finished learning about Europe, Africa, and the pre-colonization Americas.  These lessons have been given to set up the context for the next era we will be learning about: colonization of the Americas.  The students have been working hard, I am very happy with them.

Music with Ms. Gan 音乐

For music, this week Miss Gan is in school on Friday. We learn about a traditional Ghana playtime song, call A keelie. After that, we separated into groups to rewrite our own lyrics, and perform at the end of the class. The videos, will be uploaded to Teams and Otus soon.  本周Miss Gan老师已经来到学校。本周五的音乐课上学生们学习了一首加纳传统的游戏歌曲,叫做A keelie。之后,学生们分成不同的小组来改写歌词,并在课程结束时进行了表演。表演视频将很快上传到TeamsOtus系统里。

This week, students continued learning and practicing Touch Rugby. They have moved from the basic skills of passing and catching to start playing competitive games against each other. Students seem to enjoy and understand all the rules, which allows them to attack and defend following more mature patterns. Now, they are able to come up with their own strategies and formations. 

本周体育课上,学生们继续学习和练习了触式橄榄球。学生们已经从练习传球和接球的基本技能转变为开始相互竞争。学生们现在已经能够理解并熟悉了解所有的规则,这使他们能够按照更成熟的模式进行进攻和防守,现在,学生们已经能够想出自己的策略和阵型。 


The fitness testing has continued this week with the curl-up test, and the trunk extensions test. Students have set up SMART goals to beat their own scores in the future.

Biology with Mr. Wu and Mr. Silva 生物

 This week, students dived deeper into the structure of both simple and more complex cells. They looked at how these cells look under a microscope and practiced drawing them. They also reviewed stem cells and why cells divide. They met Mr. Silva via video call and he got them to play a fun, competitive Quizlet game to learn key scientific vocabulary.  本周在生物课上,学生们深入研究了单细胞和更复杂细胞的结构。学生们在显微镜下观察这些细胞的外观,并练习绘制细胞的结构。此外,我们还回顾了干细胞以及细胞分裂的原因。Mr. Silva老师通过视频跟学生们相互认识,并通过一个有趣的、有竞争力的Quizlet游戏让学生们学习了关键的科学词汇。

This week students started to working on periodic table. Through their research and PPT presentations, they understood and considered that development of the periodic table took many years and involved scientists from different countries building upon the foundations of each others work and ideas. Besides each student introduced one element that they were interested. 

这个星期,学生开始了对元素周期表的学习。通过研究学习和PPT演讲,学生们对元素周期表的发展史有了深刻的理解和思考,周期表的发展涵盖了不同国家的科学家,建立在他们相互之间的成果和想法。另外,每位学生还跟大家分享介绍了自己最感兴趣的一个元素。


Another thing that made students excited was that Mr Silva joined lessons this Wednesday via teams. Mr Silva created a quiz game by using vocabulary for periodic table. Students enjoyed a lot and checked what they had already known about periodic table and some elements.

让学生们兴奋的另一件事,Mr Silva通过Teams加入了星期三的课堂。带领学生做了一个Quiz的单词游戏,学生们很喜欢这个游戏,同时从游戏中自我检查了解了对元素周期表内容的掌握情况。

Our two AP Art students are completing requirements for an illustration portfolio. Each student is getting specific lessons based on thier personal interests.

本周在艺术课上,两名学习AP艺术的学生正在完成他们的作品集。每个学生都会根据个人兴趣学习特定的课程。


Katherine is learning how to broaden her mind in the world of fashion by creating clothing from abstract water marks.  She'll choose one and develop it by adding texture, patterns, and begin thinking about materials studies.

Max Is continuing to develop his portfolio that will help with his interests in Toy Design. Max正专注于玩具设计方面的兴趣研究,继续丰富他的作品集。





AP-Physics 1  AP物理1


Students are doing two dimensional kinematics. For a much clear approach they did the firing of projectiles in two modes:

1-Horizontal projectiles.

2-Oblique projectiles. 

本周在AP物理1课上,学生们正在学习二维运动学。为了获得更清晰的方法,他们采用两种模式进行投射:              

 1-水平投射。              

 2-斜投射 。


How the knowledge of projectile motion can be helpful in war time or in disaster time for dropping the objects from a height from the aircraft. Related calculations were done by students. 投射运动的知识如何帮助在战争时期或灾难时期让飞机从高处投射物资,学生将亲自完成相关计算。

Increasing the range of a shoot/throw without changing the applied force, was also understood by students. 学生们也学习了如何在不改变作用力的情况下增加射程/投掷距离



Math and Pre-calculus with Ms. Sunny Sun 数学和前微积分


For G11 math students, they explored by themselves of measurement and estimation, what a kind of factors will influence the accuracy and approximate results. How should we in different situations record measurements, apply significant digits and rounding.  本周在11年级的数学课上,学生们探索了测量和估计的方法,以及影响精度和近似结果的因素。在不同情况下,我们应该如何记录测量值、应用有效数字和舍入。

For G10 pre-cal student, Priscilla investigated and equipped herself with different ways of representing a sample space and how to calculate the probability will different tools. 10年级的前微积分课上,Priscilla研究并展示了表示样本空间的不同方法,以及如何使用不同的工具计算概率。

Greetings! This week the students got a chance to really get to know Ms. Guedes who joined us by Conference call. The students started this week with a self introduction where they got to introduce themselves as well as having the opportunity to find out more about their Math teacher, her history, and her family as well.  本周,Ms. Guedes老师通过视频教学开始对学生们进行数学指导。 老师和学生们进行了相互了解 ,Ms. Guedes老师 也向学生们介绍了她的教育教学背景及家庭信息。

Later on, as the week progressed, the students began to work through problems related to their individual classes. In Geometry, the students worked with Points, Lines, and Planes in order to solve word problems and equations. In Algebra II the students reviewed Quadratic functions and looked at how they can be used to represent everyday situations. 本周在几何课上,学生们通过点、线和平面来解决应用题和方程式。在代数II的课程中,学生们复习了二次函数,并研究了如何使用二次函数来表示日常情况。

Ms. Guedes will be traveling to Qingdao on Friday and we are excited about having her closer to home! The students will complete separate projects on Friday and will present their work on Monday. Overall, its been a very productive week for the students!  Ms. Guedes老师将于本周五到达青岛,我们很高兴她离我们越来越近了!学生们本周五需要完成独立的课题,并在下周一展示他们的成果。总的来说,本周对学生来说是非常有成效的一周!
