Baishan AWS is partnered with Annie Wright Schools (AWS) in Tacoma, Washington and prepares students for higher education abroad. Our Weekly Update is an opportunity for us to share all of the great learning experiences that take place both in and outside of our classroom, and is a testament to our commitment to communication with our parents as well as the community.

To begin our Baishan AWS Speaker Series, we hosted guests from HSBC Bank. Students were taught about financial investment and investments. 作为白珊·安妮高中系列讲座的开始，本周我们邀请了汇丰银行的演讲嘉宾，为学生们讲解了有关金融投资的知识。
Joined by an expert via Zoom, the students were taught the 4 Ps of Finance: product, price, place, and promotion of a good or service. Students then joined into groups to create their products and services. Students who complete this short course receive a certificate of completion. 专家通过Zoom视频会议，给学生们讲解了金融术语4P：产品（product）价格（price）渠道（place）促销（promotion）。之后，学生们分成不同的小组，创造和展示他们自己的产品和服务。学生们完成这门课程之后会获得相应的结业证书。

Tuesday, October 12 - Fall Language Assessments 10月12日 星期二——秋季学期语言评估
All students will have their Fall Oxford Language Assessments. Data from these assessments help to show how much growth the students are making regarding English listening and reading.
Wednesday, October 13 - PSAT 10月13日 星期三——PSAT考试
Students who signed up for the PSAT will be taking this during periods 1 - 3.
October 14 - 15 - Parent-Teacher Conferences 10月14日至15日-家长会
Parent - Teacher Conferences. Students will be off-timetable for both days. 家长会期间学生不上课
October 16 - Adventure Day 10月16日——家庭探险日
Baishan AWS will be joining Amerasia for activities, adventure, and family fun on Saturday, October 16th. All students are expected to attend. All families are encouraged to attend. Students and faculty should wear their House t-shirts. Family members assume the same house and color of their son or daughter, meaning if the Baishan AWS student is a House Fushan and has white t-shirt, then the family member is invited to wear a white shirt.
October 29 - Dress-up Day 10月29日 ——换装日
All students and faculty are encouraged to show school and seasonal spirit by dressing up. This has been and exciting day in the past! 所有学生及教职工都可以穿着自己选择的服装来展现学校精神。这通常都会是非常有趣和精彩的一天！
English at AWS 英语
As we come to the middle of the first semester, 10th and 12th grade ELA students are finishing novels and getting ready to begin intensive writing as the 9th grade Yellow Ties prepare to begin reading The Lightning Thief and studying the Hero's Journey as a story structure. The 11th grade IB students are preparing interview questions for AWS teachers so that students can practice writing interviews as a text type. As always, students continue their English language progression--this week, specifically working to master question formation. Next week is a busy week as all students prepare to take the Oxford Assessment and Blue Ties (and some Green Ties) get ready for the PSAT.

Individuals and Societies with Mr. Durbin 人文科学

This week in American History the students studied the different European colonists in America and the globalization that happened as a result. The students did a study of primary sources on the colonial forms of self-government. Next week we will continue studying colonization while focusing on the English colonies. 本周在美国历史课上，学生们研究了在美国的不同欧洲殖民者以及由此产生的全球化影响。学生们研究了殖民地自治形式的主要来源。下周我们将继续研究殖民地化，同时关注英国殖民地。

This week students rewrite the chorus of Bon Jovi's living on a prayer. The best lyrics group goes to Bob and Jay. They will be rewriting a lyrics for the music ensemble to sing for the music ensemble showcase. 本周在音乐课上，学生们改写了Bon Jovi的 living on a prayer的合唱。Bob和Jay创作的歌词被推选为最佳歌词。接下来他们将为乐团改写歌词，为乐团表演演唱。

Integrated Sciences with Mr. Silva 科学

This week, Grade 9 & 10 started their Ultimate Frisbee Unit. Students were introduced to the game's basic rules, backhand throwing and catching skills. To practice their backhand throw, they participated in a Frisbee Golf tournament. Using the school football field, students played a 9-hole event and kept track of their scores. The aim of the game was to throw the Frisbee successfully in the hoops, using the least amount of throws possible. 本周在体育课上，九年级和十年级的学生练习了飞盘活动。我向学生们介绍了比赛的基本规则、反手投掷和接球技巧。为了练习反手投掷，学生们参加了一场飞盘高尔夫锦标赛。学生们在学校的足球场上打了一个9洞的项目，并记录了得分。这个游戏的目的是用尽可能少的投掷次数将飞盘成功地抛入篮筐。
In Fitness class, Grade 11 & 12 students continued working on a health related fitness component of their choice. Some of them decided to work on muscular strength and endurance, others elected to focus on their cardiovascular endurance. Chinese Literature & Culture with Ms. Emilia 中国文学

At the same time, clarify the story timeline, from the failure of the reform movement of 1898 to the victory of the war of resistance against Japan, which has different historical backgrounds and reflected the social reality for more than 50 years. Combined with other literary works, such as Worry free grocery store and Journey to the west, we can learn and understand the role and value of time and space in the expression of literary works.
AP Art with Mr. Brandt AP艺术
The AP Art students continue to develop their portfolios. Our Red Tie, Max R., is also working to meet the requirements of his Illustration portfolio for upcoming college applications. 本周在AP艺术课上，学生继续增加他们的作品集。红带Max R.正在努力准备即将到来的大学申请的作品集要求。

IB Mathematics AI SL with Ms. Guedes IB 数学
This week we continued a review of trigonometry. As the students brushed on their skills in solving right triangles, they built tools for measuring angles and utilized them to make implicit measurements. Geometry and Algebra II with Ms. Guedes 几何和代数II
Geometry students worked hard learning new Math terms and make connections with concepts with which they are already familiar.
