Our Grade 9 geographers spent this week researching and then discussing how climate change is impacting the Arctic – and not just the ice, but also the polar bears, the walruses, the cultures and traditions of the Inuit people. Will the rest of us start to feel the impact of these changes, too?   本周九年级的地理学家们研究并讨论了气候变化是如何影响北极的——不仅仅是冰,还有北极熊、海象、因纽特人的文化和传统。我们其他人也会开始感受到这些变化的影响吗?

Our Grade 10/11s have been practicing some of the most important foundational skills that historians and academics use – close reading, annotation, corroboration, evaluating bias, and determining the reliability of a source. They’ve been practicing these skills using sources that focus on colonialism and the Age of Exploration and Disruption.   10/11年级的学生正在学习历史学家和学者们经常使用的一些最重要的基本技能——细读、注释、证实、评估偏见和确定来源的可靠性。学生们一直在通过学习有关殖民主义和探索与颠覆时代的资源来练习这些技能。

Our Grade 11 AP geographers are continuing their study of agriculture, evaluating the benefits and costs that emerged from our three Agricultural Revolutions. We’ve also explored patterns of land ownership – from bid-rent theory to land survey methods – to explain why European dairies were always close to cities, for example, or how Kenya could become a major supplier of roses worldwide.  11年级的AP地理学家们本周继续对农业进行研究,评估了三次农业革命带来的效益和成本。学生们还探索了土地所有权的模式——从招租理论到土地调查方法——来解释为什么欧洲乳品厂总是离城市很近,或者肯尼亚如何成为全球玫瑰的主要供应商。

Mathematics with Mr. Guo

Our Grade 9 students worked on condition probability and rules of probability and tried to understand the concept of randomness and use random numbers to make a simulation. They analyzed decisions and strategies using probability concepts.

九年级学生们研究条件概率和概率规则,并试图理解随机性的概念,利用随机数进行模拟实验。他们使用概率知识分析策略并作出决定。

Grade 10 students moved on to second part of the unit, using Statistical method to analyze data. We revised some essential terms in Statistics, including mean, mode, median, range, and etc. They learned to find quartiles and interquartile range and draw a box-and-whisker plot to display data.

10年级学生进入本单元的第二部分的学习,使用统计方法分析数据。我们复习了统计学中的一些基本术语,包括平均值、模式、中位数、极差等。他们学会了寻找四分位数和四分位数的范围,并绘制箱型图来显示数据。

Grade 11 students discovered a new method of locating points in the plane, The Polar Coordinate System. The polar coordinate system uses a radial distance and an angle to locate a point and is useful in calculating the equations of motion from a lot of mechanical systems. Students tried to convert between polar and cartesian coordinate system and graph a polar equation. We concluded the study of complex numbers this week.

11年级学生学习了一种新的在平面上定位点的新方法,极地坐标系统。极地坐标系统使用径向距离和角度来定位一个点,在计算许多机械系统的运动方程方面很有用。学生试图在极地和笛卡尔坐标系统之间转换,并绘制极地方程。本周我们完成了对复数的学习。

Chinese Zhongkao with Mr. Zhan

This week, the 9th graders learned the contemporary poet Shu Ting's poem "Homeland, My Dear Motherland". Students developed their three "golden keys" to poetry: Through reading aloud, reading with rhythm, experience its musical beauty, through imagination, come up with a scene, experience its picture beauty, through thinking, understanding the thoughts and feelings, experience its emotional beauty.

In addition, also want to share with you, in the morning class,  Jessica Ji led everyone to the music classroom, share her experience of playing the violin, introduce the violin knowledge, and hand-in-hand to teach everyone to master some of the basic essentials of playing the violin, such a morning class broke through the previous "I say you listen" form, won everyone's welcome, is a meaningful attempt.

English Language Arts with Ms. Jia and Ms. Jenn 英语语言文学

In ELA, as usual, students spent the week reading, writing, and thinking. The Blue Ties are half way through West Side Story and spent some time identifying examples of verbal, dramatic, and situational irony before diving in to Act 2. The Green Ties focused on the telling of the experience of surviving Auschwitz from three different perspectives--graphic novel, memoir, and documentary--as they continued to read their way through The Complete Maus. Finally, after reading 1984, the Red Ties worked on world building; they're creating a dystopian world and then writing a screenplay for a short film that will be set in that world. The whole school will attend a screening of their film at the end of March.

Chinese Literature & Culture with Ms. Emilia  中国文学

本周10年级学习了第一单元关于中国古代教育的内容,包括古代教育的形成和发展,古代的“六艺”教学内容,官学、私学和书院以及科举考试制度。同学们通过学习探究古今中外不同教育的特点,结合当今教育现状,发现存在的问题,进行对比分析,得出自己的结论,更全面深入地理解“什么是教育”。This week, Grade 10 student learned unit 1 about ancient Chinese education, including the formation and development of ancient education, ancient teaching content, official school, private school, Academy and imperial examination system. Students through learning to explore the characteristics of different education at all times and in different countries, combined with the current situation of education, found the existing problems, comparative analysis, draw their own conclusions, a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of "what is education".

11年级的AP中文课,我们学习了6种特殊句式,比如双宾句,兼语句以及句式的变换。学习现代汉语句子的语法和生活实际使用的句子相结合,加深对“句子”这一语法层级的理解。另外,本学期我们加强了对词汇基础的学习和强化,用以积累和掌握更多的汉语词汇。In AP Chinese class of Grade 11, we learned six special sentence patterns, such as double object sentence, concurrent sentence and sentence pattern transformation. To learn the grammar of mandarin sentences and combine the sentences used in daily life, deepen the understanding of the grammatical level of "sentence". In addition, this semester, we have strengthened the study and reinforcement of vocabulary foundation to accumulate and master more Chinese vocabulary.

Physical and Health Education with Coach Faamamafa 体育

Life is like a mountain, hard to climb but worth the amazing view from the top. Climbing is one of the fastest growing activity around the world. It is also considered as one of the hardest and challenging as you are on your own, depending on your strength, techniques and skills.  人生就像一座山,很难攀登,但值得从山顶欣赏到美丽的景色。攀岩是世界上发展最快的活动之一,它也被认为是最难和最具挑战性的运动,因为你主要是靠自己的努力,取决于你的力量,耐力和技能。

This week students get to learn the basic of climbing from climber protection to the belayer protection. Student have time to practice working on the rope in their groups. Student show their interested on climbing and try out for the first time. We will be continue learning basic skills on how to climb and how to secure more protection when someone is performing a task of climbing. 本周,学生们学习了攀岩的基本技能,以及攀岩者保护的基本方法。学生们在小组里练习了如何操作绳子。学生们第一次尝试攀岩,都表现出对攀岩的极大兴趣。接下来我们将继续学习攀登的基本技能,以及当有人执行攀登任务时如何获得更多的保护。

Physics with Mr. Kytle 物理

This week the students are finalizing their understanding of how physical forces impact movement. The students examined the effect of multiple forces brought to bear upon a single object and the strain those forces have upon an object. This pairs well with the information the students already possess as they have learned that gravity and electromagnetic forces have an infinite range. As in, these forces are always present in some capacity and thus all objects have these forces acting upon them at all times.  本周在物理课上,学生们完成了力是如何影响运动的学习。学生们研究了施加在单个物体上的多重力的作用以及这些力对物体的应变。这些内容巩固了学生们已经掌握的知识,因为他们已经了解到重力和电磁力的范围是无限的。如上所述,这些力总是以某种形式存在,因此所有物体在任何时候都会受到这些力的作用。

The students also enhanced their vocabulary by increasing their ability to describe physical forces. From airplanes to boats, different situations have different descriptors for the forces involved. Overall, this week involves a lot of discussion and diagraming of different situations and the forces involved.  此外,学生们通过对力的学习,也增加了他们的专业词汇量, 从飞机到船只,不同的情况对所涉及的力有不同的描述。总的来说,本周学生们对不同情况所涉及的力进行了大量的讨论和分析。

11 - Here we can see some of the different Physical Forces. While the students had already learned some of these vocabulary words they have been tasked with learning quite a few more words that describe forces in different situations.

图中我们可以看到一些不同的物理力。虽然学生们已经学会了其中的一些词汇,但他们的任务是学习更多描述不同情况下的力的表达。

12 - As we can see, it is only by taking all of these forces into consideration that we can truly appreciate motion. Activities like these help the students to appreciate details and to look further into problems and everyday occurrences.

如图所示,只有考虑到所有这些力,我们才能真正理解运动。这样的活动有助于学生了解细节,深入了解日常生活中的问题和事件。

Chemistry with Ms. Jiajia 化学课

This week students were completing the rest part of thermochemistry, then they reviewed what they had learned for the whole unit. The first step, they challenged to draw a mind map combing all the concepts and formulas, presented their mind map by explaining in more details and solved what they didn’t understand. The second step they did some questions to enhance their learning and understanding. Finally they took a short quiz for evaluation, self-reflection and summary.

这个星期,学生们完成了热化学上周的剩余部分,然后学生对整个章节进行了回顾。首先,他们通过画思维导图把所学知识串联起来,然后用更详细的解释进行陈述表达,同时解决病弄懂了之前不明白的地方。第二步,学生们通过做了一些练习题进行深化理解。最后,通过做了一个小的随堂测试来进行自我评估,反馈与总结。

Next week, they will move on to next unit—Kinetics.

下个星期,将会进入下一个单元-动力学。
