Sep. 27th, 2019
Dear Baishan AWS Parents, Students, and Friends,
It has been a great learning experience for me to meet with almost all of our parents over the past week. The time we have had to learn more about our common perceptions of school, and the differences between a school in America and China has been very useful and informative.
I hope that all parents came away with the clear understanding that we will always communicate with families if there is any major problem in school. I also hope that families understand that we have built into our school calendar many opportunities for parents to be informed about what is going on in school. Also, keep in mind that parents can contact their son or daughter’s teacher via email with any questions about the class.
We will hold an Open House on October 11th. This afternoon event will take place from 12:45 until 3:15. This is another chance to learn about what your school life looks like for your son or daughter. We will send out more information later next week.
Finally, I hope that we all understand that what we are trying to do with our school is very ambitious and complex. We will always be there to help you each step of the way. We will build up our common understanding and achieve success for our students.
I wish you all a restful holiday!

Art students are finished practicing fundamentals of drawing and are ready to begin work on their unit project. They have now just started their own Vanitas still-life drawing using professional quality colored pencil on black paper. They will spend about two weeks working on this artwork.
In World Geography we are ending Unit 1 with a project that is pushing students to think critically. The 9th graders are studying data-rich maps, and using the evidence they find there to create claims about the world. This is making their brains hurt, but for a good reason.
In US History, the 10th graders are examining engravings from the late 1500s to study what life was like in a Native American village around the time that Europeans first arrived. They're making some very interesting discoveries.
In English 9, students have been practicing functional language so that they can speak English more exclusively. In English 10, we spent the week working on summary writing and after the holiday, we'll return to text conventions and writing down personal stories.
In Accelerated Algebra II, students are using systems of equations to solve application problems while continuing to build their mathematic vocabulary.
PARENTS MEETING
We welcome all parents for a short meeting on Friday to learn more about:
What a course syllabus is and understanding what ia means.
Responsibility and helping our students become independent.
Learning in English and what are doing to help.

A Day in the Life ——by Max Ruan
It's been a month since school started, and students are already adapted this new environment. Today I’m going to invite you to Baishan AWS to see our student life.
First, in the morning, after students get up, we have morning exercise, and then,we go to cafeteria to have our first meal of the day — breakfast. After that we come to classroom and prepare the lesson for the whole day.
Before the first period, we have advisory. In the morning, we certainly have core classes such as English, Algebra, History and Science.
For the lunch, we eat on the second floor of cafeteria with QAIS students. The food is very delicious ; it's the best meal in a day.
In the afternoon, usually, we have electives like Art, Sports, Technology, Drama, Model UN and Journalism. In these classes we can learn a lot while having fun.
After dinner we have evening class and self study. At night we come back to the dorm at
9 p.m. and get sleep.
That's the life of the Annie Wright students.
All the best to the people of China
We are always ready to help.
