Baishan AWS Newsletter Oct 12th

时间:2021-12-01

Dear Baishan AWS Parents, Students, and Friends

I hope that you all found our Open House event to be useful and informative. We will work hard over the course of the school year to explain each part of learning and life at Baishan AWS.

We are happy to have many of our students taking part in the Sports Day at Baishan. It will be a fun event, and our students will have a chance to demonstrate their athletic skills. Thanks to you for allowing them to take part!

On Saturday October 19th, Baishan AWS will take part in the International Day event hosted by QAIS. We would like all students and parents to participate. We also need to have the final numbers of students staying on Friday, October 18th to prepare the dorm room and cafeteria planning.

Remember that Parent-Teacher conferences are coming up on the 24th and 25th of October. We will be sending out a schedule and sign-up sheet soon. We also hope that you will all have time to meet with Mr. Rex Bates from Annie Wright on the evening of the 24th. Finally, we will send home report cards to families for the first quarter on November 4th.

I wish you all a restful weekend.

 Class Snapshots

 English with Ms. Roth

This week, all of our lessons for grade nine were focused around the themes of food and eating in restaurants. Next week, we'll be talking about families and relationships. Students are using English more and more. To help remind them of the importance of using English in their communication with each other, each time they speak Chinese in English class, they lose one minute of phone /computer access during their afternoon free time.

Science and Math Class

In our ninth and tenth grade classes, we have started our physics unit, opening with motion. The students have worked with position versus time graphs and looked at the difference between distance and displacement and between speed and velocity. Emphasis was placed on being able to usemultiple representations to describe motion. In geometry we began to look at points, lines, and planes and introduced associated  vocabulary.

After School Fun Time

Archery Club

With the turn of the new golden season - Autumn, it is also the perfect time to enjoy new activities, learn new skills, and make new friends. The 2019-2020 Electives of AWS have launched! From basketball drills in the gym, enthusiastic cheering on the soccer field, high-spirited shotting, merrily singing, graceful dancing, creative painting, Robotics & Coding, or experimenting and brainstorming, after school life is always filled with passion and joy!

Drama Club

With the support of the Baishan School and QAIS, we have been contemplating how best to nurture students 'hobbies and support their strive for excellence via electives. Upper School students are actively engaged in running electives as they put their earned knowledge and leadership skills into practice: Journalism Club gathers students who are fervent about writing and photography, and reports the latest and greatest happenings in school(looking forward to reading your scoops, Unicorns!) We are thrilled to have students taking the helm. They are pioneers and have our full support.

Reading Club

Open House

This Friday, we invited all of parents to spend an afternoon at school to learn about:

1.What are the major goals of the classes your children take at school each day.

2.What texts, materials, and technology are your children using to support their learning.

3.What are some examples of work and projects that your children have completed so far.

This is not a time for individual conferences. You will all have a scheduled opportunity during conferences to meet with each teacher and review grades, effort, and strategies to improve upon for the next quarter of school the next time.

Hopefully you can all attend.

Sports Day

To Annie students,

The pleasant autumn wind brings us a cool campus, and the fierce competition burns our  passion! My Friends, at the moment you step on the runway, please keep faith to the end! There are many pairs of expectant eyes behind you and support you! With each take-off, the sound of cheering besides your ears will add infinite strength to you! My Friends, when you are challenging yourself and your limits, please keep faith to the end ! Whether you win the first or not, run the whole distance with a smile and jump over and over heartily, as long as the young heart is beating vigorously, you should carry on courage and confidence to the end!         ------ From Angel  Xuan

In this Sports Day, Victoria He, Henry She and Jay Ye won the second in the high jump and in the long jump and the fifth excellent result in the 100m final respectively. With the joint efforts of all of students, we have also achieved the fifth excellent result of the 4*100 metre boy's relay group. Congratulations to you!

We are always ready to help.
